President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Hamad Kalkaba Malboum Adams, has called on African nations to remain united and speak with one voice on issues affecting athletics on the continent.
Speaking at the CAA Council meeting held at the African Regent Hotel in Accra on Sunday, May 10, Adams stressed the importance of solidarity among member federations despite competing under different national flags.
“We may have our athletes competing under individual national flags, but when we meet as a federation like this, I want us to speak with one voice,” he told delegates at the meeting.
He further pointed to Africa’s successful hosting of major international athletics competitions as proof that the continent is ready to stage world-class events.
Adams cited Kenya’s hosting of the World U20 Championships, Uganda’s organisation of the World Cross Country Championships, and Botswana’s recent hosting of the World Relays as examples of Africa’s growing influence in global athletics.
