The presidential candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Percival Kofi Akpaloo, has sharply criticized Ghanaians for what he perceives as their tendency to support corrupt leaders rather than those with integrity.
His remarks were made in response to the public’s praise of Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson following his recent legal victory in the ambulance procurement scandal.
On July 30, 2024, the Court of Appeal acquitted and discharged Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa in a high-profile case involving the procurement of ambulances.
While many Ghanaians lauded the court’s decision, Kofi Akpaloo expressed disappointment with the public’s reaction, questioning their judgment and values.
In an interview on Hot Morning Drive with Kwabena Prah Jnr, Akpaloo drew a controversial comparison, likening Ghanaians to the Biblical Pharisees who chose to free the criminal Barabbas over Jesus Christ. He argued that this modern-day preference for “wrongdoers” over individuals of integrity is a troubling reflection of societal values in Ghana.
Akpaloo’s comments have sparked debate, with some supporting his stance on the need for greater integrity in leadership, while others have criticized his harsh rhetoric.
The LPG candidate remains adamant that Ghanaians must reassess their support for leaders to foster a culture of honesty and accountability in the nation’s politics.
