David Kumi Addo, Executive Director of Care for Free and Fair Elections Ghana (CARE GHANA), has expressed full support for the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s planned nationwide demonstrations on September 17, 2024.
The NDC is rallying against what they perceive as mishandling of the voter register by the Electoral Commission (EC), and Addo believes the protest is a crucial step given the unresolved complaints.
The NDC’s dissatisfaction with the voter register surfaced during a recent exhibition exercise, where multiple irregularities were reported.
Despite presenting these concerns to the EC, their request for a forensic audit was denied.
The ongoing issues have prompted the NDC to organize the nationwide protest to demand accountability and transparency from the EC.
In a recent interview with Hot FM’s Taken Over News, Addo emphasized that if the EC remains unresponsive to the grievances of Ghanaians, the protest is a necessary action. He argued that the demonstration serves the broader interest of the nation, highlighting the importance of addressing electoral integrity for the future of Ghanaian democracy.
