A member of the Greater Accra Regional communication team for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Akwasi Frimpong, has revealed plans to recommend Joseph Matthew’s hit gospel song, “Walk,” as Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s official campaign song for the 2028 elections.
Political campaign songs have long been a staple of Ghana’s electoral landscape. Ever since the NPP adopted Cindy Thompson’s “Awurade Kasa“ during the 2000 general elections, music has played a pivotal role in political rallies.
The trend reached new heights ahead of the 2008 elections with Daddy Lumba’s Appietus-produced hit, “Nana Ye Winner,” which became a nationwide sensation.
Since then, both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have routinely commissioned or adopted campaign songs ahead of major elections.
Ahead of the 2024 presidential race, Dr Bawumia notably adopted King Paluta’s hit tracks “Aseda” and “Makoma” for his campaign playlist.
Masterfully produced by acclaimed sound engineer Francis Osei, “Walk” was crafted as an immersive audible experience. Designed to be both a spiritual and musical companion, the track aims to guide listeners through the rest of the year with grace, confidence, and purpose.
Speaking on Hot 93.9FM’s Hot Morning Drive, Akwasi Frimpong explained why he believes Joseph Matthew’s latest track is the right follow-up.
“You have been playing Joseph Matthew’s song ‘Walk’ every day… I have listened to it carefully and realised that it’s a great song Dr Bawumia must use for his campaign for the 2028 election,” Akwasi Frimpong told the host.
The NPP communicator added that the song’s message and high production quality align perfectly with Dr Bawumia’s message and mission heading into 2028.
He urged all the members of the New Patriotic Party to download the song and listen to it
