EOCO protest was organised by NPP Youth – Miracles Aboagye confirms

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Youth Wing has admitted organising the crowd that gathered outside the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in support of Dancehall star Shatta Wale during his recent detention.

The confirmation was made by Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a leading figure in the party, who said the mobilisation was part of efforts to defend fairness and prevent abuse of discretion in law enforcement.

Shatta Wale, known privately as Charles Nii Armah Mensah, was granted bail after nearly two days in EOCO custody. His initial GH¢10 million bail was reduced to GH¢5 million with two sureties, alongside a requirement to report to EOCO three times weekly.

The case stems from a 2019 Lamborghini Urus seized from his residence, which investigators say is tied to proceeds of a $4.7 million financial crime under investigation by U.S. authorities.

During the period of his detention, hundreds of supporters massed outside EOCO offices demanding his release. Miracles Aboagye confirmed that these demonstrators were, in fact, members of the NPP Youth Wing.

“The Youth wing of the New Patriotic Party has been consistent. For them to show up in this manner in solidarity with Shatta Wale is to reinforce the fact about protecting our democracy from abuse of discretion,” he stated.

Mr. Aboagye also commended Salam Mustapha, the party’s National Youth Organiser, for leading the mobilisation, stressing that the protest was not only about Shatta Wale but also about upholding principles of fairness in law enforcement. He cautioned that “weaponising bail conditions” as punishment undermines the rule of law.

The revelation has added a political twist to the ongoing case, sparking debate about the intersection of politics, celebrity influence, and justice in Ghana. Meanwhile, Shatta Wale’s case remains under investigation as EOCO continues to collaborate with U.S. authorities on the matter.
