The Member of Parliament for Kumawu and Chairperson of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Ernest Yaw Anim, has stressed the need for prudent management of public funds as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) examines audit findings involving the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and its agencies.
Anim made the remarks after participating in the ongoing PAC hearings on the 2025 Auditor-General’s Reports, which are examining financial management and audit infractions identified in public institutions.
The committee engaged officials from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and agencies including the Tree Crops Development Authority, Cocoa Processing Company and the Irrigation Company of Upper West Region (ICOUR) to respond to issues captured in the audit report.
According to the Kumawu MP, the hearings are an important part of Parliament’s constitutional oversight role in scrutinising public expenditure, promoting compliance with financial regulations and protecting the public interest.
“Ensuring prudent management of public resources, strengthening accountability, and ensuring compliance remain paramount, as we continue to scrutinise public expenditure and safeguard the public interest,” he said.
The PAC hearings form part of Parliament’s efforts to promote transparency and accountability in the use of public funds by ministries, departments and agencies.
The exercise also provides an opportunity for public officials to respond to audit findings and explain measures being taken to address identified irregularities.
