A toddler has died following a heavy downpour that triggered flooding in Akim Oda in the Eastern Region (E/R), while another child was rescued alive.
The incident has highlighted the dangers posed by heavy rainfall and the risks faced by residents in communities vulnerable to flooding.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 13, the Office of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, said a constituency team had visited the bereaved family to offer support following the tragedy.
Mr Acquah, who is currently outside the constituency on parliamentary duties, is expected to visit the family personally next weekend upon his return, according to the statement.
The MP has also made a donation through his team to support the family as they mourn the loss of their child.
The statement further indicated that Mr Acquah had engaged the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Birim Central Municipal Assembly to provide assistance to the family and assess areas vulnerable to flooding.
“
The MP urged residents to exercise caution during this rainy season,” the statement said.
The MP also indicated that he had engaged the relevant authorities to support the bereaved family and assess flood-prone areas to help prevent similar incidents.
