The Chairperson of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee and Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Ernest Yaw Anim, has held discussions with senior officials of the Global Fund on strengthening collaboration to promote human rights and improve access to healthcare in Ghana.

The engagement took place on the sidelines of the 63rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Mr Anim was accompanied by the Deputy Ranking Member of the Human Rights Committee, Anthony Sumah.

The discussions focused on the management and implementation of Global Fund-supported programmes in Ghana, with emphasis on ensuring that the interventions deliver meaningful benefits to communities.

The engagement also covered broader human rights concerns linked to healthcare access, equality and non-discrimination, as well as the protection of vulnerable and marginalised groups.

Mr Anim said it was important for human rights principles to remain at the centre of health financing and the implementation of programmes designed to improve the wellbeing of citizens.

He reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to exercising effective oversight over programmes supported by development partners, including the Global Fund.

According to him, stronger collaboration will help promote accountability, transparency and effective management of grants while ensuring that health services are accessible to all Ghanaians.

The engagement forms part of Parliament’s broader efforts to strengthen partnerships with international organisations and ensure that Ghana’s health and human rights commitments translate into tangible outcomes for citizens.
