Hot 93.9FM’s journalist threatens legal action over TraffiTech-Gh implementation

Well-versed broadcast journalist with Accra-based Hot 93.9FM, Nyansakyeame Yaw Boadi, has threatened to drag the government to court over the impending nationwide roll-out of the automated traffic enforcement system ‘ TraffiTech-GH’.

The warning comes on the heels of an official petition submitted by the journalist on October 19, 2026, addressed to President John Dramani Mahama and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Tetteh Yohunu, demanding an immediate freeze on the system’s launch, currently scheduled for November 1, 2026.

TraffiTech-GH, operated by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, relies on high-definition cameras, sensors, laser speed detectors, and handheld units to automatically capture traffic infractions.

Recorded evidence is then cross-referenced with database records from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) and the National Insurance Commission (NIC) to issue digital citations and fines directly to vehicle owners.

In the petition, the Hot FM journalist argued that even though he agrees with the initiative in principle, he wants the government to undertake emergency nationwide road marking and signage before the implementation starts next month. He also wants the government to post clear speed limits on all major roads.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Hot FM’s Mid-Day News, Nyansa Kyeame Yaw Boadi disclosed that he has yet to receive an official response or acknowledgment from the Presidency or the Police Administration regarding his petition.

“I agree with the TraffiTech-GH initiative in principle—it is a modern step toward road safety. However, you cannot automate punishment on unmapped and poorly marked roads,” Boadi stated

“If the government fails to address these critical infrastructural gaps and insists on proceeding with the November 1 implementation, I will have no option but to seek an injunction from the courts to halt the process.” He threatened
