Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Ernest Yaw Anim, has announced the completion of the first and second phases of a streetlight project aimed at improving safety and visibility in communities across the constituency.
The project has seen the installation of new streetlights and the repair of faulty ones in 11 electoral areas.
The areas covered are Bomeng, Dadease, Akotosu, Kumawu Etia, Kumawu Ahenboboano, Abotanso, Woraso, Aninangya, Nkwanta, Temate and Besoro.
As part of the initiative, the MP said 250 household bulbs have also been distributed in each of the 11 electoral areas to improve lighting within homes.
This means a total of 2,750 household bulbs have been distributed across the 11 areas.
Mr Anim, who chairs Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, said the project forms part of his efforts to improve the quality of life and security of residents in the constituency.
He said improved street lighting would help make movement at night safer while contributing to efforts to prevent crime in the communities.
The MP described the project as part of his commitment to creating “brighter, safer communities” for the people of Kumawu.
Residents have welcomed the intervention, particularly the repairs to faulty streetlights and the distribution of household bulbs, saying the improved lighting would provide greater visibility and security at night.
