The Sekyere Kumawu District Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has received a motorcycle, a laptop computer and cash for fuel from Kumawu Member of Parliament Ernest Yaw Anim to support its human rights work.
The donation is aimed at improving the office’s mobility and operational capacity, particularly in reaching remote communities across the district.
Anim, who chairs Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, presented the items at his residence in Kumawu, saying the support was intended to help the Commission overcome logistical challenges that limit its work in rural areas.
He said CHRAJ played a critical role in protecting the rights of vulnerable people but often operated with inadequate resources.
“CHRAJ is the last hope for many vulnerable people seeking justice. But without mobility and tools, their work is limited,” he said.
The MP said the motorcycle would help officers travel to hard-to-reach communities to investigate human rights complaints, handle child maintenance cases and conduct public education, while the laptop would support documentation, reporting and case management.
Anim also announced plans to provide quarterly assistance to the district office to cover fuel and operational expenses.
“We cannot leave CHRAJ alone. If we want them to protect the rights of our children, women, the aged and the vulnerable, we must resource them. This quarterly support is my commitment to them,” he said.
The Sekyere Kumawu District Director of CHRAJ, who received the items on behalf of the Commission, described the donation as timely and said transportation had been a major obstacle to investigations and community sensitisation.
The director assured that the items would be put to effective use and pledged to strengthen the office’s work in serving residents of the district.
The director also appealed to individuals and organisations to support the Commission’s operations.
The presentation was attended by constituency executives, CHRAJ staff and community members.
