Member of Parliament for Kumawu and Chairman of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Ernest Yaw Anim, has called for sustained investment in child protection systems to safeguard vulnerable children from labour exploitation.

Speaking at the National Justice Conference 2026, held under the theme “Sustainable Funding for Child Protection Against Labour Exploitation,” the Kumawu MP stressed that protecting children requires more than policy commitments, insisting that adequate and sustainable funding is essential to achieving meaningful results.

According to him, advancing justice and promoting human rights must be supported by deliberate investments that strengthen institutions responsible for protecting children across the country.

“As Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of Parliament, I believe that through collective action and sustainable commitment, we can advance justice, uphold human rights, and ensure protection for vulnerable populations across Ghana,” Hon. Anim stated.

The conference brought together government officials, development partners, civil society organisations and child protection advocates to examine funding gaps and discuss strategies to strengthen legal and social interventions against child labour.

Hon. Anim noted that sustainable financing is crucial to enforcing child protection laws, supporting victims of labour exploitation and expanding public education to reduce the prevalence of child labour.

He further reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment, through its Human Rights Committee, to collaborate with relevant ministries, departments and agencies to strengthen child protection mechanisms and ensure Ghana fulfils its constitutional and international obligations on children’s rights.

The Kumawu MP said protecting children from exploitation requires a coordinated national effort and urged all stakeholders to prioritise long-term investments that will guarantee the safety, welfare and future of every Ghanaian child.
