The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has called on the government to apologise to Ghanaians over the recent wave of power outages, popularly referred to as dumsor.
According to media reports, he accused the National Democratic Congress government of failing to live up to its promises of stabilising the country’s energy sector.
His comments follow growing public frustration over intermittent power cuts being experienced in parts of the country despite assurances from authorities.
Haruna Mohammed is reported to have criticised what he described as the neglect of policies inherited from the previous New Patriotic Party administration, arguing that the situation has contributed to the current challenges in the sector.
He further urged the NDC to be candid with Ghanaians about the state of the power situation.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Energy, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced the full restoration of power generation at the Akosombo Dam.
Reports indicate that the disruption was caused by a fire outbreak at a substation operated by the Ghana Grid Company, which led to the loss of more than 1,000 megawatts of power and outages in several areas.
The Minister is said to have assured that engineers have resolved the issue and that measures are being put in place to ensure a more stable and reliable power supply.
