Organisers of the 2026 Ride Afrique Accra Criterium say preparations are far advanced ahead of this year’s edition of the annual cycling race.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Accra Sports Stadium and is expected to attract over 200 cyclists from across Ghana and other African countries.

The race, which has been endorsed by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, is also sanctioned by the Ghana Cycling Federation.

Chief Executive Officer of Ride Afrique, Richard Agu, described the event as a growing force in African cycling.

“Ride Afrique has become a benchmark event for cycling in Ghana and Africa, and we’re excited to see the growth and interest in the sport,” he said.

This year’s competition will see male cyclists compete over 30 laps (105km), while female cyclists will race over 15 laps (52.5km).

According to Agu, organisers have outlined comprehensive measures to ensure a smooth and successful competition.

“We’ve put in place all the necessary arrangements to make this event a huge success, and we’re looking forward to an exciting competition,” he stated.

He also expressed appreciation to sponsors and partners for their continued support.

“We appreciate the support of our sponsors and partners, which has been instrumental in making Ride Afrique a success. We’re committed to continuing to promote cycling in Ghana and across Africa,” Agu added.

As part of efforts to broaden exposure for local talent, the male winner of this year’s event will benefit from a cycling exchange experience with an organisation in Spain.

“This exchange programme will not only encourage more participants but also promote Ghana’s cycling identity on the international stage,” he noted.

Winners of the competition will receive cash prizes, cycling equipment and products from sponsors.
