An 87-year-old man, Yaw Gahornu, has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a nine-year-old girl at Ofankor in Greater Accra.
The convict was sentenced after being found guilty of two counts of defilement by the court, according to the Accra Regional Police Command.
A police statement dated October 12, 2026, said it was the Tesano Divisional Police Command that handled the case.
The facts are that on August 29, 2026, victim’s mother returned from work and noticed bloodstains on her clothing.
The police said the child subsequently disclosed that Gahornu had sexually abused her repeatedly between July and August 2026.
Investigations further indicated that Gahornu had allegedly lured the child to his sleeping quarters and threatened to kill her if she told her mother about the abuse.
Gahornu’s granddaughter is said to have witnessed the abuse on August 31, 2026, and informed family members, including the complainant, after which the matter was reported to the police.
