Electoral Commission Yet To Lay CI On Ghana Card As Source Document-Agyei Mensah Korsah Fumes

The deputy minister for local government Martin Agyei Mensah Korsah has set the records straight on the attempt to malign the electoral commission on a proposed CI to make Ghana Card a source document for registration to qualify for an electoral card during Voting.

The deputy minister who doubles as a Member of Parliament for Techiman South reacted to the issue after a false publication that the CI has been rejected by Parliament in an interview with Agya Wusu on Hot Morning Drive.

Also, he noted how the process will help clean and modify the system if the EC decision is affirmed by the Parliamentary process. Parliament has no power to instruct the electoral commission on what to do as an independent commission.

What Parliament seeks to do is to send a recommendation which is not mandatory on the EC as he stressed.

Parliament has the only option to vote on a two-thirds majority which is highly impossible. He argued that elections must be improved on previous ones.

Ghana has to reach a level devoid of polling station agents after a robust system.

The Mp under the ruling of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) again noted how people have been abusing the guarantor system and its porous nature.

The most acceptable document as we speak is our Ghana Card. He also cleared the notion that the Ghana card will be used for the election 2024 as it is meant for continued registration devoid of those already with voters’ ID cards.

The Mp further explained that the Ec’s continuous registration will last for more than a year and a half.

He bemoaned the speculation and suspicions by a section of Ghanaians on impossible decisions to disenfranchise qualified Ghanaians from voting.
