The Ahafo regional house of chiefs has threatened to go on a demonstration over the nature of poor roads in the region. The major roads leading to the regional capital are in a very deplorable state per the accounts of the revered chiefs.
This might be the first time seeing the regional house of chiefs made up of Paramount chiefs hit the street to express their dissatisfaction in terms of their fair share of the national cake. The Paramount Chief of Goaso, Nana Kwasi Bosomprah made this during an interview with Agya Wusu on a hot morning drive in Accra.
According to the Omanhene of Goaso, A delegation of chiefs from the region has made several appeals to the government through the regional minister and the roads and highway minister but still, nothing has been done. Ahafo is part of the new regions which were created by Nana Addo’s administration in 2019 as part of his promise before coming to power. Our people keep insulting us that there are no elders but we leave with them and it is time we voice out in a non-partisan manner as he stressed.
The Omanhene noted that major foreign exchange like cocoa, Timber and Gold are coming from the same area including the food basket. A very passionate appeal was made by Nana Bosomprah to the government to at least consider the major road from Tepa to Goaso which links the area to our neighbouring country Côte d’Ivoire to reduce stress and robbery attacks.
The planned demonstration has been postponed after several meetings with the chiefs by top government officials in the area to inform the president.
