The Ghana Plastics Manufacturers Association has decided to cancel their planned demonstration slated for July 10, 2024, following productive discussions with Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Michael Okyere Baafi.
The association had intended to protest against the implementation of a 5% excise tax on their products.
After meeting with Deputy Minister Baafi, who assured them of further governmental engagements to address their concerns, the association expressed satisfaction with this commitment.
As a result, they have also postponed their initial plan to cease production in protest.
This decision marks a temporary reprieve for the plastics industry, pending ongoing negotiations with the government aimed at resolving the tax-related issues affecting their operations.
