The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to appear before Parliament on Friday, July 19, 2024, to provide a briefing on the preparations for the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
This session, scheduled to take place in the parliamentary chamber, comes in response to requests from members seeking to understand the EC’s readiness for the elections.
Members of Parliament have shown a keen interest in the EC’s preparedness, prompting this engagement.
The briefing will cover various aspects of the EC’s preparations, including logistical arrangements, voter registration updates, and measures to ensure a free and fair election process.
During proceedings on Thursday, July 18, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, announced the scheduled briefing.
He emphasized the importance of this session in providing clarity and assurance to both Parliament members and the general public about the integrity and efficiency of the electoral process.
“We will be meeting the Electoral Commission; they are going to be here at our instance. We have invited them to come and brief us on the preparations they have made so far towards the 2024 elections,” he stated.
“If you have any issue relating to the EC, just come and ask. It’s not going to be a banter; we’re going to respectfully enquire about what they are doing. So, let’s prepare and come and meet them,” he added.
