The Accra Sports Stadium served as the backdrop to the Black Stars woeful 2025 AFCON qualification campaign that ended in an underwhelming draw with Niger.
Missing out on qualifying for the upcoming African championship marked the tipping point in a very bad run for Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team in recent years.
However, on Friday, March 21, the edifice served as the backdrop to what could be the reset of the team and the start of something great.
After filling the Stadium to witness a dominant performance by the Black Stars, the grand arena is set to undergo a massive facelift to prop up its facilities to a world-class standard.
By the time it is ready for public use again, the Black Stars could have booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, and their final qualification game against Comoros would serve as the ultimate opening for the new edifice.
Indeed, Ghana’s biggest attraction and performance was a fine one, but that didn’t come without a series of collaborative efforts behind the scenes. Stakeholders, major and minor, played their role to ensure that the final product came out right. Working in tandem with the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Ministry of Sports and Recreation delivered its first major test.
Breezing past apathy towards the Black Stars by generating massive spectatorship at the stadium and followership in social circles, the Sports and Recreation Ministry aced its first major test and has shown what lies ahead for Honourable Kofi Iddie Adam’s administration.
As we continue to show support to the Black Stars’ quest to qualify for the FIFA World Cup for the fifth time, our dedication to growing sports and boosting participation in recreational activities won’t waver. We call on Ghanaians to join in President John Mahama’s mission to reset this mighty nation.
Let’s Go, Black Stars and Gold bless Ghana.
