The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Kumi, a representative of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reportedly passed away.
Sources close to the family and party have reported that Mr. Kumi passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025. However, the official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
Currently, neither the New Patriotic Party (NPP) nor the Parliament of Ghana has issued formal statements or announced funeral arrangements.
The late NPP stalwart was serving his first term in Parliament after winning a contentious race during the December 2024 general elections.
He secured the seat for the NPP in a closely contested race marked by allegations of vote buying, irregularities at some polling stations, and heightened political tension in the lead-up to the polls.
