The Ministry of the Interior has issued a directive mandating the registration of all machinery used in mining activities with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) by August 1, 2025.
The move is part of government’s broader efforts to regulate the mining sector and combat illegal operations nationwide.
The announcement, made through the Ministry’s official Facebook page on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, emphasized that any mining equipment found unregistered after the deadline will be confiscated by the State.
The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the DVLA, has been assigned the responsibility of enforcing the directive beginning August 2. This enforcement is expected to strengthen oversight in both licensed and informal mining operations.
The Ministry has urged all miners—individuals and companies alike—to comply promptly with the new requirement to avoid penalties, including the potential loss of their equipment.
