The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has expressed dissatisfaction with the mid-year budget review presented by Finance Minister Mohammed Amin Adam.

During his address to Parliament, Dr. Amin Adam highlighted the government’s commitment to financial discipline, assuring that they would strictly adhere to budgetary allocations and manage expenditures to avoid overspending.

However, GUTA remains unconvinced by the minister’s assurances. The association argues that the supposed positive impacts of the government’s financial strategies are not being felt by its members.

“Our businesses are still struggling,” stated Mr. Ben Yeboah, the National Welfare Officer for GUTA, in an interview with Hot News.

He emphasized that the ground reality for traders is starkly different from the optimistic picture painted by the Finance Minister.

Mr. Yeboah further elaborated on the challenges faced by traders, pointing out that many are grappling with high operational costs and decreased consumer spending.

He urged the government to explore innovative economic solutions that would directly benefit the business community and stimulate economic growth.

“We need practical measures that will make a real difference in our daily operations and help us thrive,” he added.

The dissatisfaction from GUTA underscores a broader sentiment among various economic stakeholders who feel that more needs to be done to support businesses.

As the debate on the mid-year budget review continues, it remains to be seen how the government will address these concerns and implement strategies that will positively impact the broader economy.
