The Deputy Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hajiah Safia Mohammed, has described the party’s just-ended delegates conference as a major success. She believes the decisions taken at the event will strengthen party unity and position the NPP for a strong comeback in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Hot FM’s Hot Morning Drive with Nana Addai Kwame, also known as De Kay, Hajiah Safia expressed optimism about the constitutional amendments and reforms adopted at the conference. According to her, the changes reflect the party’s commitment to internal democracy and inclusiveness.
One of the key decisions was the expansion of the party’s electoral college from 220,000 to 280,000 delegates, a move expected to widen grassroots participation in internal elections. Additionally, the party scrapped the special college system, which previously narrowed down flagbearer aspirants to five in crowded contests.
Another significant change is the resolution to elect the party’s Director of Communications, rather than having the position filled by appointment. This, Hajiah Safia believes, will ensure transparency and broader ownership of the party’s messaging strategy.
She is confident that these reforms will not only bring the party faithful together but also energize the base ahead of the 2028 elections. Hajiah Safia concluded by urging party members to embrace the new direction and work collectively towards reclaiming political power.
