Mindsport Ghana, in collaboration with the Ghana Chess Association, the Women’s Commission, and the Africa Chess Confederation, has successfully hosted the “Rising Queens” event, a vibrant celebration of women’s chess excellence in Ghana.

The programme took place on August 30, 2025, at the VVIP Lounge of the Accra Sports Stadium.

The initiative, which sought to promote gender equality and empower young female players, brought together chess enthusiasts, players, parents, and officials to highlight the achievements and growing influence of women in the sport. Vice President of the Ghana Chess Association, Christiana Ashley, reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to expanding opportunities for female players across the country.

The event featured award presentations, rapid chess tournaments, and networking sessions. Special recognition was given to pioneering women players, including IA Christiana Naa Merley Ashley, WFM Dr. Angela Naa Amerley Ayiku, WCM Tobi Felix Abena, and WCM Maud Benson, alongside several rising talents. Appreciation awards were also presented to supportive parents and gentlemen who have contributed significantly to the growth of women’s chess in Ghana.

In the competitive segment, Jeshurun Tandon emerged winner of the Open Rapid Event, followed by CM Daniel Smart Frimpong in second place and Miracle Morris in third. WCM Maud Benson received the Best Lady award. In the women’s-only category, Christiana Naa Merley Ashley placed first, with WFM Dr. Angela Amerley Ayiku and Pearl Addo finishing second and third respectively.

The ceremony attracted high-profile dignitaries, including Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), his deputy Ms. Veronica Commey, and senior figures from the Ghana Olympic Committee.

Organisers expressed gratitude to key supporters, including the NSA, Ocean Spray, and the Ghana Olympic Committee, for their contributions in making the event a success.
