The 4th edition of the Osagyefo Criterium Championship ended in grand style on Sunday, September 21, 2025, as the Gladiators Cycling Club celebrated the birthday of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, with an exciting day of racing.
The championship brought together 33 men and 5 women, who battled over distances of 110km and 77km respectively. Spectators were treated to a pulsating contest filled with speed, power, and endurance.
Nigeria’s Mary Sunday dominated the women’s category, crossing the finish line in commanding fashion to take home the GHS 5,000 prize. She was joined on the podium by Coxson Treasure of Team Subsea in second place and Ghana’s own Ellen Anim in third.
The men’s event kept fans on edge from start to finish as every attempt at a breakaway was quickly neutralised. The tense race came down to a thrilling sprint finish that required a photo review to declare Prince Kudufia of EPIC Cycling Club as champion. He walked away with the GHS 7,500 top prize, followed closely by Solomon Tagoe of Gutten Cycling Club in second and Prince Maison of Club Sky Team in third.
Organisers hailed the success of the event, crediting more than 23 volunteers, race marshals led by Madam Cassandra Tawiah, and safety officers from the Ghana Police Service and National Ambulance Service.
Technical support came from the Ghana Cycling Federation, with officials including Rudolf Mensah, John Zormelo, Nii Anum Quaye, Wilson Nkurmah, Elizabeth, and Eric “30 Laps” Adjetey Sowah.
President of Gladiators Cycling Club, Mr. Kojo Graham — popularly known as Power to the People — praised the winners, organisers, and fans, describing the Osagyefo Criterium as more than just a race.
“This championship is a symbol of teamwork, unity, and a living tribute to the visionary legacy of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah,” he said.
