Ghana’s former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has passed away at the age of 76.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official communication from the Rawlings family or government representatives.

The Rawlings

Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, has been a towering figure in Ghana’s political and social landscape.

She founded the National Democratic Party (NDP) after she left the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and was widely recognised for her strong advocacy on women’s empowerment and social development.

She was part of the dignitaries who laid wreaths at the Forecourt of the Jubilee House to honour the eight public servants who recently lost their lives in a helicopter accident.

She was at the Jubilee House with her children and other family members to pay their last respects to the victims of the crash.

Also among her recent public appearances was participaticipation in the Dote Yie funeral rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

She was in Kumasi to sympathise with the Asante Kingdom.

On that occasion, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was accompanied by two of her adult children, Amina Agyeman-Rawlings and Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings. The three took turns to console Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on the loss of the Asantehemaa.
