NAIMOS Taskforce member dies in fatal accident during anti-galamsey operation in Obuasi

One member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce is reported dead after an operational vehicle was involved in an accident at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday.

According to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the accident involved a five-member team that was on its way to carry out a major anti-galamsey operation in the area.

A statement issued by the Media Relations Officer of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources explained that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities within the enclave.

The Ministry confirmed that one officer died on the spot, while the remaining four suffered serious injuries.

The injured officers are currently receiving medical treatment.

Some eyewitnesses said the vehicle somersaulted.

MINISTRY MOURNS THE LOSS OF NAIMOS TASKFORCE MEMBER IN FATAL ACCIDENT

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources regrets to announce that a team of five (5) members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) was involved in a fatal motor accident today near the Obuasi Airport area.

The incident occurred while the team was undertaking a major anti-galamsey operation aimed at curbing the menace of illegal mining within the enclave.

Tragically, one member of the taskforce has been confirmed dead, while the remaining four sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical care.

The Minister extends his profound sympathies to the family of our fallen colleague and conveys his heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery to the injured team members.

The Ministry has initiated a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of all frontline personnel and will ensure they receive the utmost support and care.
