The Majority Caucus of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament has called for the immediate cancellation of the party’s recently held parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency, following allegations of vote buying.
In a statement dated February 8, 2026, and issued from Parliament House in Accra, the caucus said it had taken note of widely circulated claims of voter inducement during the just-ended primary in the Greater Accra constituency.
The Majority Caucus strongly condemned the alleged developments, describing them as inconsistent with the party’s commitment to resetting Ghana’s politics and restoring integrity to the democratic process.
After what it described as extensive deliberations, the caucus said both its core and extended leadership had resolved to formally communicate specific recommendations to the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC.
Among the resolutions is a call for the annulment of the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary. The caucus further recommended that any candidate found to have engaged in unethical conduct, including vote buying, should be disqualified from participating in the fresh primary to be organised after the annulment.
The statement stressed that the NDC Majority Caucus remains committed to upholding ethical standards and safeguarding the credibility of internal party elections.
The statement was signed by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Mahama Ayariga, who reiterated the caucus’ resolve to ensure integrity in Ghana’s political system.
