The Ashanti Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for armed robbers who attacked the Berekum Chelsea team bus, leading to the death of one of the club’s players, Dominic Frimpong.
He succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during a robbery attack on the team’s bus.
The attack occurred on the night of Sunday, April 12, 2026, along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road in the Nyinahin District, as the team was travelling from Samreboi to Berekum.
The Police, in its statement, said the bus, which had about 30 players and officials on board, came under attack from six armed men, three of whom were wielding pump-action guns.
In an attempt to escape, the driver veered off the road into a nearby bush.
During the incident, Dominic Frimpong sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.
Another passenger, George Owusu Afriyie, 52, was also robbed of GH¢4,500 during the attack.
Police said they have since deployed additional personnel and crime-scene experts to the area, with investigations ongoing.
Two spent BB cartridges have, so far, been retrieved from the scene to assist in tracking the suspects.
The police have assured the public that efforts are underway to arrest the perpetrators, as the tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the football community.
