The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kumawu and Chairperson of Parliament’s Human Rights Committee, Ernest Yaw Anim, has supported 500 newly admitted Senior High School (SHS) students from the constituency with full prospectus items and cash to help ease the financial burden on their families.
The beneficiaries, selected from more than 1,000 fresh SHS entrants from Kumawu this year, each received essential items including chop boxes, trunks, mattresses, plastic buckets, cutlery sets, bowls, exercise books, school bags and mathematical sets, as well as GH¢500 for upkeep.
According to the MP, the intervention forms part of his “Investing in the Future of Kumawu – Education First” initiative aimed at supporting education and reducing the burden on parents.
Ernest Anim, who has served as MP since 2023, said the latest support marks the third consecutive year he has provided assistance to students in the constituency.
He said his support for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates also included providing four buses to transport candidates to all five examination centres, as well as mathematical sets for all candidates.
“As Member of Parliament for Kumawu, nothing gives me more joy than seeing our young ones progress in education,” he said.
“Education remains my top priority. I will continue to do my best to reduce the burden on parents and give our children a fair chance to succeed,” he added.
The MP said the support for newly admitted SHS students was intended to ensure that financial challenges do not prevent beneficiaries from starting their secondary education with the basic items they need.
