The Accra Basketball League (ABL), in collaboration with the Ghana Basketball Association (GABBA), has held a pre-technical competition meeting to finalise preparations ahead of the upcoming season.
The meeting, which took place on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the Midindi Hotel in Accra, brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on technical and operational arrangements for the league.
Discussions at the meeting focused on critical areas including team registrations, competition format, rules of play, as well as the formation of a League Club Association and a Players Club Association.
Chairman of the ABL, Eric Opoku Antwi, underscored the league’s commitment to promoting fair competition and increasing the visibility of basketball in Ghana.
“We want to showcase basketball at its best and attract corporate sponsors to grow the game,” he stated.
As part of efforts to enhance the standard of play and presentation, the league is expected to utilise the Borteman facility as a key venue for matches.
President of the Ghana Basketball Association, Alex Kukula, commended the strong participation at the meeting, describing it as a positive sign for the future of the sport.
“This is a great sign of cooperation and willingness to grow the game,” he noted.
He further described the ABL as one of the biggest basketball leagues on the continent, adding that with the right support, it has the potential to reach greater heights.
The league is also expected to serve as a platform for nurturing talent for Ghana’s national teams and international basketball competitions.
