ADA Youth Accuse NPP Chairman Of Sabotaging Government,Electrochem Partnership

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Divine Otoo Agorhum has been accused of having instigated some community youth at Ada to thwart ongoing works at a salt mining site, Songor Salt base in Sege, Ada.

Mr Otoo Agorhum is alleged to have caused some youth to go on a shooting spree to halt the salt mining project that is leased to one of the subsidiaries of the McDan Group of companies, Electrochem Ghana Limited for 15 years.

The government of Ghana awarded the local-based firm, Electrochem Ghana limited the rights to mine and produce salt at the Songor Salt base in Sege, Ada. Some residents of the Ada community alleged on anonymity that the NPP regional Chairman was behind the shooting incident.

Claiming that the young men who took part in the shooting spree have on several occasions been seen with the NPP Regional Chairman. They expressed that the recent action had caused fear and panic within the community and therefore called on the police for protection.

Meanwhile, the Ada District Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), George Boakye said the matter is currently under investigation and would ensure that all those behind the incident would face the full rigours of the law. The DSP said a 24-hour patrol team is currently patrolling the Ada Community to assuage the fear and panic of the residents.
