GFA to receive $700,000 in annual CAF funding

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to benefit from an increase in annual financial support from the Confederation of African Football (CAF), with allocations to its 54 member associations rising by 33 per cent to as much as $700,000.

The increase, announced by CAF president Patrice Motsepe, represents a rise from the previous annual subvention of $525,000 and is intended to strengthen football development and improve administrative capacity across the continent.

The latest adjustment forms part of a series of increases in financial assistance provided by CAF to its member associations since 2021.

Annual allocations have risen from $200,000 in 2021 to $400,000, followed by $525,000 and now up to $700,000. The latest figure represents a 250 per cent increase compared with the amount allocated five years ago.

In addition to the national associations, CAF has announced increased financial support for its zonal unions, whose annual subvention will rise by 20 per cent, from $750,000 to $900,000.

The African Clubs Association will also benefit from an increase in its allocation, which will move from $400,000 to $500,000.

CAF says the additional funding is intended to help strengthen football structures, improve governance and create sustainable opportunities for the development of the sport across Africa.

The increased allocations are expected to support investment in youth and women’s football, strengthen administrative operations and improve opportunities for players, coaches and referees.

For Ghana, the additional financial support could provide the GFA with greater resources to expand its development programmes, improve football administration and strengthen structures at various levels of the game.

However, the extent of the benefits will depend on how effectively the funds are managed and directed towards the country’s football development priorities.

The increase forms part of CAF’s broader efforts to improve the competitiveness, governance and financial sustainability of football across its 54 member associations.
