2006′ best African act award at the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards went to Ghanaian hiplife artist Batman Samini.
The Ghanaian musician stood against fellow Africans from Uganda, South Africa and Nigeria at the live music competition at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 20 September.
Samini beat nominees Tony Tetulla and P Square from Nigeria, Lebo from South Africa, and Jose Chameleon representing South Africa.
It was a new category at the 11th Edition of the Black Origin Awards.
The Ghanaian maestro was welcomed back to Ghana on 14 October with a party at the Boomerang nightclub in Accra, the independent weekly Public Agenda reports.
The MOBO awards were held annually in Britain to recognize artists of any race, ethnicity or nationality performing music of black origin. Last year UK-based Ghanaian Derek Sway Safo won the MOBO award for best hip-hop act.
