A stalwart of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Alexander Amo Baffour, has taken a swipe at media houses for interviewing politicians regarding the recent court case involving Abronye DC.
The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, was arrested and remanded into National Investigations Bureau (NIB) custody on May 13 by an Accra Circuit Court.
According to the prosecution, the accused published a video online in which he allegedly made derogatory remarks, claiming that a specific Circuit Court judge always presided over political cases and that the judge’s rulings were wrong and full of grammatical errors.
The prosecution further alleged that the video was an attempt to incite the public against the court and the judge.
The state added that the accused mounted social media attacks against the judge following separate controversial comments made by a pastor about the Vice-President, a case that is currently under trial. Abronye DC was subsequently charged with publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to the breach of peace.
On May 22, 2026, the court, presided over by Justice Bankole Thompson, granted the outspoken NPP regional chairman bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties to be justified.
As part of the bail conditions, the accused is required to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters once every fortnight.
The court further directed him to surrender his travelling documents to the court registry and restrained him from travelling outside the jurisdiction without prior permission from the court.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Hot 93.9FM’s Hot Morning Drive show hosted by Oman Nana, Dr Alexander Baffour Amo slammed media houses that invite politicians to share their opinions on the matter.
According to him, relying on politicians prevents the public from forming an objective opinion on the issue.
“It is wrong for media houses to invite politicians to share their views on Abronye’s case. They allow partisan NDC and NPP interests to prevent them from doing what they are actually supposed to do. In this case, they are calling on politicians to discuss it, when the media houses themselves could be analysing the issue objectively,” Dr Amo stated.
He further explained that “when you ask these politicians to speak on what happened, they always protect their own interests. You may think they are educating the public, but they are not.”
Dr Alexander Baffour Amo is a National Chairman hopeful of the ruling party. He is also a lecturer at Pentecost University
