Parliament has given its approval to Herbert Krapa as the Minister of State-designate for the Energy Ministry.

This decision comes shortly after the Minority blocked a request by the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to expedite Krapa’s vetting and approval process.

President Akufo-Addo had nominated Krapa, the Deputy Energy Minister, for the new position following Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s selection of the current Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as his running mate for the upcoming elections.

In a move to prevent a leadership vacuum within the Energy Ministry, the Majority Leader urged Parliament to fast-track the approval process.

However, the Minority opposed this request, arguing that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was still serving as the Energy Minister, and there was no immediate need for haste.

This disagreement led to a heated debate within the House, highlighting the ongoing tensions between the two sides.

Today, the matter resurfaced, and the Appointments Committee ultimately recommended Herbert Krapa’s approval. Despite the Minority’s decision to stage a walkout in protest, the report was passed.

This action by the Minority underscored their disapproval of the expedited process and their broader concerns regarding the nomination.

In related news, Parliament also approved Kofi Ahenkora Marfo as the Deputy Trade and Industry Minister.

These appointments are part of President Akufo-Addo’s ongoing efforts to fill key positions within his administration as the nation approaches the upcoming elections.
