Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) has donated GHS30,000 to support the welfare of Ghanaian footballers following a friendly exhibition match involving Black Stars Legends and UMB officials.
The presentation was made at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf Park in Accra as part of an event organised under the auspices of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG).
The exhibition match brought together former Black Stars internationals and officials of UMB in a spirited encounter aimed at strengthening ties between Ghana’s football fraternity and the corporate sector.
It also offered the former internationals an opportunity to reunite and reconnect through the sport they once played professionally.
The Black Stars Legends side, coached by George Alhassan, featured several former national team stars, including goalkeeper Sammy Adjei, John Paintsil, Daniel Opare, Afo Dodoo, Jerry Akaminko, Mohammed Gargo, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Godwin Attram, Yaw Preko, Haminu Dramani and Kwame Ayew.
Following the game, UMB, a banking partner of the GFA, presented a GHS30,000 cheque towards the welfare of Ghanaian footballers.
The cheque was received on behalf of PFAG by former Black Stars captain and team captain for the occasion, Yaw Preko.
PFAG President Tony Baffoe expressed appreciation to UMB for the gesture, describing it as a reflection of the growing partnership between the corporate world and Ghana’s football community.
Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu also thanked UMB on behalf of the players for its continued support for Ghanaian football.
The initiative highlights UMB’s engagement with Ghana football beyond its banking partnership with the GFA, while providing support for players and strengthening the relationship between the corporate sector and football stakeholders.
