A mum whose autistic son was assaulted by Cristiano Ronaldo has appealed that the footballer should not be allowed to “get away with it again”.
Sarah Kelly, the mother of the assaulted son said she did not know how the Manchester United star could sleep at night knowing the distress he had caused to a young fan.
The Football Association has charged the Manchester United star after footage showed him knocking a phone out of 14-year-old Jacob Kelly’s hand.
The teen, an Everton fan, was left with an injured, puffy hand and a broken phone.
Sarah said that she hoped CR7 got the deserved punishment. He can’t keep getting away with it. His behaviour is unacceptable.”
Ronaldo smashed Jacob’s phone out of his hand in frustration after his team was at Goodison Park in April.
The Portuguese forward accepted a police caution for assault and criminal damage last month, which Sarah branded the “tiniest slap on the wrist”.
The FA said on Friday that Ronaldo had been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3, relating to “improper and/or violent” conduct.
She was angry that the Merseyside Police had been the ones to fork out in getting the phone repaired, she said.
Sarah, of Upton, Merseyside, added: “He should have paid for that. He’s the one who caused all this.
“It confuses me – he can assault a child and carry on as normal. How can he sleep at night knowing the distress he has caused to a young fan?
Sarah said the police told her Ronaldo paid a £200 fine.
She also commented on Jacob not receiving a sincere apology from the player.
She added that Ronaldo offered to meet them, said he was sorry but stated he had done nothing wrong. ‘That was not an apology, that is an insult’ Sarah concluded.
