Ghana Premier League champions, FC Samartex 1996, have been drawn against Cameroonian side Victoria United FC in the preliminary round of the 2024-25 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
The Timber Giants will first travel to Limbe, Cameroon, for the initial leg of the tie, before hosting Victoria United in the return fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Founded in 2002, Victoria United FC is one of the rising forces in Cameroonian football and is expected to be a formidable opponent for the Ghanaian champions.
Their strong performance in recent years makes this match-up particularly intriguing as both teams aim to advance in the prestigious continental competition.
This draw marks FC Samartex’s debut appearance in the CAF Champions League, following their historic Ghana Premier League title win in the 2023-24 season.
The team is eager to make a significant impact in their maiden campaign and demonstrate their abilities on a larger stage.
The draw ceremony, held at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, on July 11, 2024, also outlined that the preliminary round matches are scheduled for August.
The winner of this tie will advance to face either ASGNN of Niger or Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic in the second round in September, adding further excitement to FC Samartex’s Champions League journey.
