Tension is escalating in Asamang Tamfoe in the Atiwa East District as residents accuse a notorious and untouchable illegal miner (galamseyer), Daniel Ansah, also known as Abeiku, of leading a brutal campaign of destruction against farmlands in the area.
Backed by heavily armed men and operating with excavators, the galamseyer is said to have razed acres of farmland under the cover of darkness, leaving a trail of devastation and fear.
Despite numerous reports filed with the Ghana Police Service, residents say no action has been taken to stop the destruction. The continued silence and inaction from law enforcement have left the farming community gripped with fear, sparking accusations of complicity or negligence.
The community now believes only Presidential intervention can restore order and protect their livelihoods.
The destruction, which has persisted for months, has crippled agricultural activity in the area. Many farmers have abandoned their lands after facing direct threats and violent intimidation. The situation has not only caused massive losses in food production but has also plunged the community into panic and economic distress.
Local leaders, including elders and victims, are appealing to President John Dramani Mahama to deploy swift action against what they describe as a reign of terror by a single individual.
Asamang Tamfoe now stands as a community under siege, demanding urgent protection from illegal mining forces operating above the law.
