The Ghana Cricket Association has held a media interaction with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and team officials at the Achimota Cricket Oval ahead of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifier B.
The tournament will feature six countries – Ghana, Tanzania, Eswatini, Malawi, Seychelles and Saint Helena – competing in a round-robin format from March 24 to March 29, 2026.
At the end of the tournament, the top two teams will progress to the Regional Qualifier, which serves as the next stage toward securing a place at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028.
Speaking at the media engagement, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Nii Okai Evans-Anfom, emphasised the importance of hosting a successful tournament, noting that the event would also help promote tourism and strengthen relations among participating African countries.
“We’re aiming for a memorable tournament that promotes tourism and African friendship,” he said.
President of the Ghana Cricket Association, Emmanuel O. Asare, expressed confidence in Ghana’s readiness to host the tournament and the preparedness of the national team.
“We’ve gathered resources for the team to start training, and we’re hoping to give our best shot,” he stated.
Head Coach Rajinder Parsad said preparations for the tournament are ongoing in line with modern cricket standards, stressing the importance of the competition to the team.
“Preparations are going on according to modern cricket standards. This tournament is very important for us, and we’re hoping to do our best,” he noted.
Captain of the Ghana team, Obed Harvey, also expressed optimism about the team’s chances and called on Ghanaians to rally behind the side during the tournament.
“We’ve been preparing for a long time, and we’re ready. We’re looking forward to using the facilities to our advantage and getting support from Ghanaian fans,” he added.
Teams are expected to arrive on March 22, with March 23 set aside for practice sessions ahead of the start of the tournament on March 24, 2026 at the Achimota Cricket Oval.
