Coach Slavco Matic Applies For Black Stars Job, Allegedly Ready To Exit Job As Hearts Of Oak Manager
Current Accra Hearts Of Oak Coach Slavco Matic has reportedly applied for the vacant Black Star coaching job after the resignation of Otto Addo.
According to a report by Asaase Sports, the Serbian is ready to walk away from his job at Hearts if his application proves successful.
Ghana has been without a coach since Otto Addo stepped down from the position after the team’s group-stage exit at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
Matic joined Accra Hearts of Oak last October following the sacking of Samuel Boadu and has guided the Phobians to fourth place in the Ghana Premier League.
However, the 46-year-old appears keen on becoming Ghana’s next coach and has already made his move without informing the club’s Board.
Matic started his coaching career in his native Serbia, where he had stints with Napredak Krusevac and OFK Beograd, having also previously taken charge of Qatari outfit Al Ahli.
Matic is a holder of the UEFA Pro Licence. He played for OFK Beograd, Spartak Moscow, PFC Slavia Sofia and PFC CSKA Sofia. Matić had a short stint as manager of Arda Kardzhali between 12 November and 16 December 2021, being released from his duties following a controversial interview, in which he revealed serious issues inside the club. Matic was hired as Septemvri Sofia coach, a team from the second tier of Bulgarian football, in early 2022.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has indicated that over 60 coaches had so far applied for the Black Stars job.
