Kyei Mensah Bonsu Allegedly Lobbying For 2024 Running Mate

Despite all his denials, reports are emerging of an active lobbying crusade being undertaken by Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu to put himself in pole position to be selected as NPP’s running mate come 2024 should Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia be elected at NPP’s 2023 congress.

According to Nana Yaw Ampofo, an ardent supporter of Mr. Alan Kyerematen for NPP 2024 flagbearer, it is clear Kyei Mensah Bonsu is making utterances that will put him in good light for his ambition when the time comes.

The Majority leader has stoked tensions when he suggested non-Akans be exclusively allowed to lead NPP after Akufo-Addo, somehow making a case for Bawumia.

He has since been attacked from all angles. This is what Nana Yaw Ampofo had to say:

“I have heard and read that the current Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah made statements that it will be unwise for NPP to present another Akan person as a Presidential candidate for the 2024 General elections after Akufo-Addo.”

In his analysis, he posited that because the NPP has presented Kufuor and Akufo-Addo who are all Akan men and they have all been successful as Presidents of the Republic, it won’t be right to present another Akan person as a Presidential candidate irrespective of the competence of the person.

Is it because he Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu is allegedly lobbying to become a running mate or Speaker of Parliament in 2025 so an Akan becoming a flag bearer may minimize his chances? Is Akan man Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu working against Akans in NPP because of his personal aggrandisement?” He asked.

He questioned why Kyei Mensah Bonsu has served as Minority leader for 16 years as an Akan without making way for a non-Akan.

“Was it ‘wise’ for the NPP to allow the Akan man Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu to lead the party whiles there were other competent Members of Parliament who are Ewes, Northerners, Guans, etc? Is it that the Akan man Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu was affirming the notion that the NPP is an Akan party by being the leader in house for four consecutive times in the midst of other members from other ethnic groups? Or did he forget that he was an Akan man who has ‘hijacked’ the party in Parliament for 16 solid years? Or is it because it is Akan Man Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu so it is alright?” He asked.
