Private School teachers’ temporary license centres to be opened to facilitate easy access to registration for all teachers employed in private pre-tertiary schools nationwide.

The decision was taken on 22nd August 2022, when the National Teaching Council (NTC) had stakeholder engagement with various private school associations in the country.

Key issues discussed were the registration and training of non-professional teachers as well as exemption for PGDE graduates.

Stakeholders of education present at the engagement underscored the need for teachers to take the licensing regime more seriously and adhere to the 31st December 2022 deadline for enforcement.

The NTC has indicated that effective 1st January 2023, It will start to prosecute educators who teach in Ghana without the appropriate license issued by NTC. It further called on owners of private schools to assist their teachers in editing the full compliance.

All parties agreed to support teachers to meet the requirements. The associations have been mandated to open registration centres to assist in the registration of the Non-professional Teachers to be given Temporary License after these teachers have satisfied the agreed standards.

In attendance are officers from the Ghana National Association Of Private Schools(GNAPS), National Council Of Private School Teachers (NCOPST), Independent Schools and Teachers Council (ISTEC), and the Ghana National Council Of Private Schools (GNACOPS)

The private school teacher associations are yet to disclose modalities and registration centres for the exercise.
