Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has commended President John Dramani Mahama for rejecting a proposed health compact from the United States of America
The rapper expressed his appreciation after President Mahama explained why Ghana decided not to accept the proposed agreement, which he described as “humiliating” to the country.
In a recent interview, President Mahama said the compact contained several provisions that raised concerns when it was presented to Cabinet.
He said Ghana was expected to provide the United States with its pathogen profile and medical records, among other requirements.
“The compact was brought to Cabinet, and we flagged several things in the compact. One, it says that we shall give the United States our pathogen profile. They also say we should give our medical records. I mean, who takes another country’s medical records?
And so that was strange. And then it says we would have to put up a certain amount of money as part of the programme into healthcare. And then it also says that any medications or any medical products that shall be brought into our country, our Food and Drug Authority has absolutely no right to inspect. I mean, it was humiliating,” President Mahama said.
Reacting to the President’s comments, Sarkodie took to X to thank him for rejecting the health compact.
The rapper said Ghana deserved better and called for greater respect for the country from the United States and other Western nations.
