Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has suggested implementing a 10 percent recruitment quota for members of Ghana’s cadet corps into various security services.
Currently, Ghana boasts over 1,200 cadet corps nationwide, which focus on training the youth and instilling discipline and volunteerism.
However, many cadet members struggle to enter mainstream security agencies.
Addressing a parade at Black Star Square to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the cadet corps in Ghana, Dr. Bawumia stated that the existing 2 percent quota proposed by the national cadet corps is insufficient.
He emphasized the need for a more substantial quota to ensure that more cadet members transition into security roles.
To facilitate this initiative, Dr. Bawumia instructed the National Cadet Corps coordinator to collaborate with the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to draft a cabinet memo for consideration and approval.
This step is intended to pave the way for the implementation of the proposed 10 percent quota.
