Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has been formally charged with publication of false news by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), his lawyer has confirmed.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, counsel for Mr Nkansah and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, said the charge stems from allegations that an individual paid money to secure a government-funded scholarship to study abroad.
According to him, Mr Nkansah was taken into custody on Tuesday and interrogated by officers of the NIB before the charge was preferred.
“He has been charged but is still in NIB custody, although he was supposed to be granted bail. How do you detain someone who has been charged with publication of false news?” the lawyer questioned.
Mr Nkansah is expected to appear before court on Thursday, February
