SAD! Chairman Wontumi Can’t Buy Chelsea Now – Here’s Why

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Wontumi will not be able to buy Chelsea, at least for now, even if he manages to raise the starting price of £3 billion.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, shocked the world when he revealed his intention to purchase the Premier League club.

This came after Abramovich’s announcement that he was ready to sell the club after pressure was mounted on him in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

However, the latest development is that the Russian billionaire will not be able to sell the cub to anyone due to sanctions slapped on him by the UK government.

Sky Sports reports that all of Abramovich’s assets in the UK have been frozen and that Chelsea are currently operating under a special licence.

This means the sale of the club is now on hold, while Chelsea cannot even sell any more tickets, as only season ticket holders can go to games for the foreseeable future.

The sanctions by the UK government, therefore, rules out any potential buyers taking over the Premier League club despite Abramovich’s decision to sell.

Meanwhile, Chairman Wontumi has attracted the attention of the Daily Mail and The Sun following his audacious bid to buy Chelsea.

Initially when the controversial politician revealed plans to buy Chelsea, it was regarded by some as a joke.

However, on Wednesday, his company released an official statement declaring his intention to begin negotiations over the takeover.

“What I want to do now is to buy Chelsea Football Club. I’m a businessman, I do gold mining and [I can afford] £3 billion,” he said.

“I want to join the bid to buy the club. If I buy Chelsea, one of the first players I bring in is the Brazilain Vinicius Junior… What is £3 billion?”

Chairman Wontumi is currently the owner of the mining firm, Hansol Company Limited and also owns a radio and television station in Kumasi.
