Ghanaian Millennium Chef Ebenezer Smith was arrested on July 2 by a joint task force of police and military personnel at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

The arrest occurred shortly after Chef Smith held a press conference to announce himself as the new Guinness World Record holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

However, this record is yet to be confirmed by Guinness World Records.

The arrest is reportedly related to a misunderstanding between Chef Smith and his sponsors, Amadia Shopping Centre.

He was detained at the La Police station.

Chef Smith’s sister, Ayram, and his lawyer, Kofi Awoonor, confirmed the arrest to 3news.

Chef Ebenezer Smith began his cook-a-thon on February 1, aiming to surpass the current record of 119 hours and 57 minutes held by Irishman Alan Fisher.

Chef Smith’s attempt, which concluded on March 6, resulted in an impressive 802 hours and 25 minutes of continuous cooking, as displayed on the Guinness World Record certificate shown during the press conference.

Despite his arrest, Chef Smith expressed his pride in his achievement, stating, “I am deeply humbled and honored to announce that I am now the new world record holder for the cook-a-thon.”

The event marking the end of his record attempt on March 5 featured performances by artists such as Praye Tietia, Yaw Tog, Amerado, Kofi Jamar, and Asakaa Boys.
